Hands around the World ©
The Hands around the World is a Creative Peace Mural project inspired by the London 2012 Games.
The Northern Ireland Creative Peace Mural Society (CPMS) will work closely with local community
groups and involve hundreds of students through the Ballymena Learning Together programme.
In association with Ballymena Borough Council, the students will revisit the original work of the first
Creative Peace Mural created in Ballymena as a Millennium project in 2000. Participants will learn about
how it inspired Creative Peace Murals around the world over the last ten years and create a new mural
inspired by the Olympic values of friendship and respect in honour of the Olympic and Paralympic
Games coming to the United Kingdom in 2012.
Truce Inspire Mark
The Hands around the World project will reflect the young people of Ballymena's view of the world in which they live
and has been granted the prestigious London 2012 Truce Inspire mark, the badge of the London 2012 Inspire
programme which recognizes exceptional and innovative projects inspired by the 2012 Games.
International Exhibitions & Cultural Celebrations
The completed Hands around the World mural will join other international Creative Peace Murals in a
celebration of internationalism at major civic events in Northern Ireland and other locations
as part of the Cultural Olympiad 2012 celebrations.
